Repository Policy

Repository Policy

SEARCH: Science Education Research Journal supports the dissemination, accessibility, and long-term preservation of scholarly publications through repository deposits. This policy establishes the conditions under which authors may deposit versions of their manuscripts in institutional repositories, subject repositories, or other appropriate scholarly repositories.

1. Policy Objectives

The Repository Policy aims to facilitate the broader dissemination of research findings, support responsible scholarly communication, increase the discoverability of published articles, and encourage the preservation of scholarly work. Repository deposits must comply with the journal's publication policies, applicable copyright provisions, licensing terms, and relevant ethical standards.

2. Permitted Manuscript Versions

Authors may deposit their manuscripts in recognized repositories, subject to the following distinctions between manuscript versions:

2.1. Submitted Manuscript (Preprint)
The submitted manuscript is the version prepared by the authors before peer review. Authors may deposit this version in an appropriate repository, provided that its status as a preprint or submitted manuscript is clearly indicated and the deposit does not misrepresent it as the final published article.

2.2. Accepted Manuscript
The accepted manuscript is the version incorporating revisions approved through peer review but not yet formatted in the journal's final publication layout. Authors may deposit this version in an appropriate repository, provided that the manuscript's publication status and the journal's bibliographic information are accurately identified when available.

2.3. Published Version
The published version is the final article made available by SEARCH: Science Education Research Journal. Authors may deposit or share this version in accordance with the journal's applicable open-access license and copyright terms. The published article should retain its original citation details and a link to the official journal version.

3. Repository Locations and Deposit Conditions

Authors may deposit permitted manuscript versions in institutional repositories, subject-specific repositories, or other reputable scholarly repositories that support research discovery and preservation. Deposited materials must not be altered in a way that misrepresents the authorship, findings, publication status, or scholarly record of the work.

Unless a separate restriction applies to a particular article or item, the journal does not impose an embargo on repository deposit of the published version licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Authors should ensure that any deposit complies with the license and any applicable third-party rights.

4. Licensing and Copyright

Articles published in SEARCH: Science Education Research Journal are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), subject to the journal's stated licensing terms. This license permits sharing and adaptation of the material for any purpose, provided that appropriate credit is given, a link to the license is supplied, and changes, if any, are indicated.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that third-party materials included in their articles are used with appropriate permission or under a license that allows the intended reuse. The license applying to the article should not be assumed to cover third-party content that is separately credited or subject to different terms.

5. Citation and Attribution Requirements

Repository copies should include the article title, author names, journal name, publication year, volume and issue where applicable, page range or article number where available, DOI or permanent article URL where available, and the applicable license information. When the final published version is available, repository records should link to the official article page.

6. Metadata and Repository Record Accuracy

Authors and repository administrators should provide accurate descriptive metadata, including authorship, title, publication status, publication date, and persistent identifiers where available. Repository records should be updated when necessary to reflect corrections, retractions, or other formal changes to the published scholarly record.

7. Research Integrity and Ethical Compliance

Repository deposit does not remove the authors' responsibility to comply with the journal's publication ethics, copyright requirements, research integrity standards, and applicable privacy or confidentiality obligations. Deposited versions must not be used to present unreviewed findings as peer-reviewed publications or to misrepresent the official publication record.

8. Policy Review

SEARCH: Science Education Research Journal may review and update this policy when necessary to reflect changes in scholarly publishing practices, open-access standards, licensing requirements, or applicable regulations. Any revised policy will be published on the journal's official website.
